We’ve had perfect grass-growing weather with this year’s alternating periods of rain and sun, and that means your lawn mower has probably been working overtime lately.
That’s why we want to help you make sure your mower is running great and cutting sharp.
Here are three things to check in order to make keeping your yard looking fresh as easy as possible!
Check your air filter
Is your mower having trouble starting? Or maybe your mower feels like it’s low on power?
Next to inferior or old gas, a dirty or clogged air filter is the most likely culprit.
Most push lawn mowers have a plastic cover that you can easily pop off to gain access to your air filter. Look for a small cover near the top of the engine secured by plastic clips or a large screw. Take this off and remove your filter.
Once you have accessed the filter, examine it on all sides for dirt or contamination. If you cannot easily clean it or are not able to blow out the debris, then it’s time for a new filter.
Not sure what size air filter you need? No problem! Just bring your old filter in and let us find the right one for you!
Change your oil level
Oil level is almost always overlooked on lawnmowers. But, just as with your car or truck, a mower that is low on engine oil is destined for destruction.
While many modern mowers do not require a full oil change, they do still need additional oil periodically.
It is likely that your lawn mower has a dipstick just like your car. When your mower is cold, pull the dipstick out and check the oil level. If it is below the fill line, just add some oil until it is within the full range. But, do not overfill!
Make sure that you check your lawn mower’s manual to see what type of oil to put in.
Don’t forget to periodically change the oil in the mower. On average, changing the oil about once a year will be appropriate.
Check your blade
Now that you’ve got the engine ready to go, it’s time to take a look at the blade.
***BEFORE PROCEEDING: disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting while you inspect the blade.***
Over time, the cutting edges of your blade will wear down and become quite dull. An old blade means your mower has to work harder, and it will start leaving uneven cuts. A dull blade also damages the grass by tearing it apart instead of slicing it cleanly.
If your blade looks warped or damaged, bring it in and let us find a replacement for you.
But, if the blade looks like it is just a bit dull, we have a blade sharpening kit in store that you can purchase so you can handle the sharpening yourself. Or let us send it out to be sharpened for you.
Looking for something with a little less maintenance?
Electric mowers don’t require much maintenance at all! Simply make sure they are charged and that the blade is sharp! That’s it!
We stock our favorite electric mower on the market at Summit Ace: EGO’s electric mower. We have both the self propelled and push mower options.
In addition to less maintenance and upkeep, EGO mowers are known for how great their batteries are. The average run time for an EGO electric mower is about an hour! All of the EGO batteries charge from start to finish in an hour or less, so you won’t have to wait long to get back out there!
EGO electric mowers are also quiet, so you can sneak in a quick mow before work or even later in the evening without upsetting the neighbors. EGO mowers also come with LED lights to help you sneak in that early morning or late evening mow.
One of our other favorite features is how flexible these mowers are. Literally. We love how flexible they are to store These mowers fold easily into an upright position to help save you precious garage space!
Did we mention the EGO mowers also only have ONE lever to adjust the wheel height? Yes, that’s right- you don’t have to adjust all 4 wheels individually. Just move one lever and get mowing!
